Refund Policy
The volunteers/interns pay their fees before starting their programmes, so the question of refund does not arise in many cases. However should the volunteers/interns decide to leave in the middle, SBF can consider to refund 30 % of the fee.

Criteria For Acceptance
Any person above 18 years of age is free to apply and there is no bar on the maximun age as long as they are fit physically and mentally and have an interest to work. We also accept volunteers/interns with physical disabilities and they may work in places like teaching, polio homes etc. However, volunteers/interns who are from the low income backgrounds may be considered for some discount which is decided by the board of trustees. The number of volunteers/interns under this scheme is 2 only. The volunteers/interns need to furnish the necessary documents from concerned authorities, in case the discount is to be considered. The discount may vary between 50 to 75 % depending upon the particular case. However, under this category applications from volunteers/interns who do not meet certain minimum criteria may be rejected.

Waiver/ Disclaimer
All SBF volunteers/interns need to sign for a waiver / disclaimer for a release of liabilities. This waiver / disclaimer is a declaration on the general rules and agreement for participation in the SBF volunteer/intern Program.

Insurance
SBF recommends that volunteers/interns make sure that they have accident insurance for death or injury and travelers insurance to cover loss of airfare, fees and other consequential damages if these potential losses are a concern.
SBF is not liable to any volunteers for

  1. Failure of any aircraft, ship, train, vessel or other means of transportation to depart or arrive according to any schedule, agreement or otherwise, and
  2. Injury or loss to the person or property of the volunteer/intern arising from or in any way connected with the volunteer’s/intern’s participation in a work camp of the SBF including but not limited to any injury or loss caused by clerical errors, mechanical difficulties, riots, wars, civil disobedience, strikes, labour, disputes, weather conditions, act of god, public enemies, quarantine, the absence of any necessary governmental approval, or any other beyond control of the SBF.
Passport
A valid passport is a must if you have to travel to India. Always remember to have a photo copy of the passport when you are traveling and leave the copy with friends or at the room. If your passport is lost/ stolen you can get a replacement from the nearest consulate/ embassy more easily.

Volunteers/Interns Expectations
Volunteers/Interns should :
  • Co-operate with the hosts and the organizers by adapting to their culture.
  • Co-operate with the work camp leader at all times for creating a better atmosphere.
  • Show responsibility towards team work.
  • Adjust to the way of life of the project and camp surroundings.
  • Realize the living conditions which are different from that at home (air-conditioning/easy access to internet/ easy transportation at all times, etc).
  • Understand that a lot of time will be spent with local people who do not speak English (very well). Volunteers should make an effort in trying to communicate through local language, this shows your interest in learning kannada.
  • Behavior and dress code should be cultural sensitive, especially while in the village or schools
  • Volunteers/interns must not drink alcohol or smoke whilst they are working. Volunteers/interns must not use any other recreational drugs (including marijuana) while working for SBF – if they do so, they will usually be asked to leave.
  • Your appearance should be presentable at the project. Dreadlocks, piercing, tatooes, etc. are not accepted. Cleanliness is very essential, please keep yourself clean always.
  • Drugs are illegal in India, even soft drugs like Marijuana are not permitted during your stay in India. SBF strongly discourages the use of any drugs and will not take responsibility for your actions. In addition, will not provide any assistance or protection to people involved with any kind of drugs.
