National Parks and Sancturies

The American black bears are found throughout the US and Canada. Despite the name, they appear in a variety of colours like brown, white and bluish black. There are roughly about 18 sub species of the black bears like the American black bear, cinnamon bear, kermonde bear, glacier bear, Florida bear, etc. About 7 to 7.5 million black bears are believed to be living in the US and Canada.

These animals weigh about 135 kilograms and above. Their diet includes berries, ants, bees, frogs, eggs of birds, herbs, insects, seeds, small vertebrates, vegetables, nuts , honey, etc. The American black bears are considered to be good tree climbers.

Conservation status : These bears are listed as Appendix II in CITES.
